Building a diskless Asterisk E1 termination box.

In the near future we (and all companies in our building) are going to switch over to a VOIP solution we are going to offer. Basically we are getting an PRI (ISDN 30) and are terminating this in a server. This server will run asterisk to pass on the number blocks for these companies towards their dedicated asterisk boxes using IAX. The idea was to get a diskless 1U supermicro server with an Digium Wildcat TE110P card and to let it boot from our NAS server. Why? Because if the box has an hardware error we can replace it very fast without loosing data (because it's all on the NFS box).

So I started today building the initial box. And it works, I now have an 1U SuperMicro box with an Wildcat TE110P card running Asterisk being loaded entirely from NFS. Now we only have to wait for Essent to terminate the PRI in our building so we can really start testing this setup :)

PaiQ

Recently I got an invitation for PaiQ, a dutch profile site, but totally different. There are no profiles on the site, the site generates matches based on information you input. You can also speeddate with a random other user of the site but stay anonymous. The only thing you know about the other person in the beginning is sex, age and status. A vague picture will be there also, but the nice thing is that this picture will become more clear as longer as you chat with the other person.

People that are looking for invites for PaiQ please contact me. I've got some left.

Obviously I ordered it at Amazon immediately :) UPDATE: I got the calendar last Thursday, and I'm actually a little disappointed with it, no new photo's at all, they are all existing press photos I already have on the photo galleries. So that's a disappointment :(

Building a 4TB RAID6 box for 1 EUR/Gbyte

At work we currently started a new project. Building a 4TB box for 1EUR/Gbyte. With current disk prices this seems a high price, but remember it's including the hardware and RAID6 redundancy. This is the current parts list for the project:
More info to come as all parts are in!

Voting NO against the EU "constitution"

I'm almost ready to go to the voting office to vote NO for the EU "constitution". Why ?
  • It's not a consititution, it's just a treaty of a lot of rules. This is misleading for the public
  • The "constitution" is over 485 pages, has tons of links to other documents and is very unreadable to the public
  • The "constitution" is against itself concerning animal wealth. For example, cruelty against animals is allowed if it's an historic or cultural reason. But it advertises itself as if it's the best for animals!
  • The "constitution" takes to much sovereignity away from The Netherlands.
At the moment polls are showing a 60% NO from the Netherlands, following op France's 55% NO. The "constitution" itself says 20 out of 25 EU members should say "YES" for it to be discussable. So 6 members saying NO will mean the end of the "constitution".

Also France and The Netherlands together having some 76 Million people, and the EU having some 485 Million People. If we incorporate the voting results in to these people already 42.6 Million people are against the "constitution" thats almost 10% of the EU residents. And there are more referenda to come!

But hey, I'm off to the voting booth!
